Beignets

Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cup all purpose flour

  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 teaspoons baking powder

  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • 1 cup buttermilk 

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 large egg

  • 1-2 cups vegetable oil

  • ~¼ cup powdered sugar (optional)

  • Honey (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pour ~1 cup (depending on pan size) of vegetable oil into a pan and let it heat up until about 325 degrees Fahrenheit 

  2. Mix together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt into a large bowl

  3. Mix together egg, vanilla, and buttermilk and add into the dry ingredients

  4. After fully combined, take dough and knead on top of a lightly floured surface

  5. After fully kneaded and smooth, roll the dough out into a rectangle

  6. Cut the dough into squares, or whatever shape is desired

  7. Fry the pieces of dough in the oil for 3 minutes each side, or until golden brown

  8. Let dough cool

  9. Sprinkle powdered sugar on top from a sieve (optional)

  10. Drizzle honey on top (optional) and enjoy!
